Biometric Identification
defines the technology of verification and authentication by measuring
a person's
physiological or behavioural features. Biometrics is a rapidly evolving
technology which is been widely used in forensics such as person
identification, physical access control, and high profile security. Recent
advancements in biometric sensors and matching algorithms have led to
the deployment of biometric authentication within a large volumes of
civilian applications. Today Biometrics is preferred over traditional
methods for various reasons:
> The person to be
identified is required to be physically present at the
point-of-identification
> Identification based on biometric techniques obviates the need to
remember a password or carry a token
An important issue in designing a practical system is to determine how
an individual is identified. Depending on the context, a biometric
system can be either a verification (authentication) system or an
identification system. At BSS Insight we developed several types of
commercial applications based on the
Biocore™ Platform.
